Academic education: 1984 to 1990 studies naval architecture at the Institute of Naval Architecture at the University of Hamburg

1995 PhD thesis on fatigue strength of welded joints – Application of the Local Approach on tubular T-joints

Employment: 1982 to 1984 Shipbuilder craftsman at the AG „Weser“ Seebeckwerft in Bremerhaven. Active in newbuilding and repair.

1990 to 1995 scientist at the University of Hamburg. Focus: structural design of ships

1995 to 2007 at the Flensburg Ship Yard (FSG), Basic Design department,

• responsible for structural analysis in ship design and related research and development

• from 2001 manager of the dept., responsible for advanced engineering in ship design and related research and development in structural analysis, hydrodynamics, mechanical engineering, software development

Since 7/2007 Asscociate Professor for steel structural engineering at the Institut for Teknologi og Innovation, Syddansk Universitet, Odense

Since 2008 Professor for structural design of ships at the Institute of Naval Architecture and Maritime Technologies at the University of Applied Sciences Kiel, Germany
