Research areas
I hold a PhD in Humanities and work as Postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Culture and Language.
My PhD thesis (2023) offers the first modern critical edition with English translation of John Tzetzes’ Commentary on the Hermogenean tratise Περὶ ἰδεῶν λογου (On Forms). Besides providing the first critical text of the 12th-century Byzantine commentary of John Tzetzes , the thesis also offers access to (mostly) unedited material, thus promoting a better understanding of the reception of Hermogenes’ rhetorical theory in twelfth-century Constantinople, as well as highlighting the impact of this treatise on the construction and definition of authorial voice of Tzetzes. In so doing it also advances our understanding of how foundational concepts, such as authority, authorship, and originality were developed through rhetorical theory.
I am also interested in authorship, Byzantine scholarship, commentaries, the role of rhetoric in Byzantine literary culture, Philology and Palaeography.
