Personal profile

Research Interests

My research is part of the field of critical heritage studies. I study how cultural icons and iconic phenomena are assigned meaning and value as cultural heritage. I am particularly interested in how time functions in the cultural heritage processes I analyze.

My contributions to cultural heritage research include analyses of how Hans Christian Andersen is assigned significance and value as a cultural phenomenon, and how he is framed and experienced as a cultural icon. Among other works, I have written a monograph about this (2020).

In recent years, I have been interested in how the High School Songbook and community singing are used as cultural heritage and how such uses at different times have had different meanings for the construction and negotiation of social identities and communities in Denmark.

I have been PI for the research project Harmony. The social communities of the High School Songbook (Danish Arts Foundation and Arts Council Norway, 2022-2025).
