Research areas

Annette Aagaard Thuesen's current research lies in the empirical fields: Community initiated health initiatives, village plans, the EU rural development program with specific focus on the LEADER component of the program, rural development, sub-municipal local council organisation and democracy and planning processes related to rural development.

She is currently working on projects related to local engagement and community around nature and outdoor life, as well as the relationship between local councils/local community associations and the municipality.

The theoretical approaches that are built on are: Democratic network governance, partnership organising, interactive governance, meta-governance, participative democracy, social innovation and institutional capacity.

Annette Aagaard Thuesen defended her PhD project in May 2010 about partnership organizing of rural development, more specifically the LEADER partnerships initiated by the EU. The aim of the project was to contribute to theory development about horisontal partnerships from a governance perspective.
