About

Research Unit for Emergency Medicine, Odense (KI, OUH)

The Research Unit for Emergency Medicine is based in the Emergency Department (FAM) at Odense University Hospital and at the Department of Clinical Research, University of Southern Denmark. The unit conducts interdisciplinary and clinically anchored research focused on improving diagnostics, treatment, and the organization of acute patient care.

The research spans from clinical trials and register-based studies to qualitative investigations of patient pathways and experiences. Key themes include early detection of critical illness, prehospital care, quality in emergency departments, and vulnerable patient populations.

The unit collaborates widely—both nationally and internationally—with hospitals, prehospital services, municipalities, and universities. Through strong clinical partnerships, data-driven research, and educational activities, the Research Unit contributes to the advancement of evidence-based emergency medicine and to better, more coherent patient care pathways.
