Human Health Research Group

Rethinking mental health promotion through arts & culture, digital intervention and exploration of violence

In the Human Health Research Group, we analyze human health through ethnographic, psychological, and philosophical inquiry. We examine how human expression of violence and harassment, arts and culture, and digital intervention shape individual and collective well-being and opportunities for mental health.

Thematically, we explore:

  • How violence intersects with mental health revealing its far-reaching negative effects on public health.
  • How arts and culture serve as innovative tools for mental health promotion and social engagement.
  • How digital mental health promotion intervenes with help-seeking behaviors, stigma, and shame.

Methodologically, our approach combines:

  • Ethnographic and philosophical public health research – Deep qualitative inquiry, theoretical frameworks, and critical perspectives.
  • Interdisciplinary method development – Integrating ethnography with experimental, narrative, digital and data-driven research.
  • Collaborative research models – Connecting with epidemiology, data science, intervention, and implementation research to develop new pathways for understanding and improving public health.
