Overview

About

The Research Group for Child and Adolescent Health conducts interdisciplinary research focused on the health and well-being of children and adolescents. The group comprises approximately 25 researchers and encompasses a broad range of topics, including mental health, healthy weight development, chronic illness and disability, health- and risk behaviours, as well as social inequality in health.

We employ an interdisciplinary approach and utilize a variety of research methodologies. These include epidemiological methods based on questionnaire data collected from children, adolescents, their parents, or teachers; data from public health nurse records; and national registry data. Additionally, we conduct qualitative research through observations and interviews—not only with children and adolescents themselves, but also with adults in their lives, such as child health nurses, teachers, and parents. Through several intervention projects, we have also gained substantial experience in intervention and implementation research among children and adolescents.

Current research areas include:

  • Intervention and implementation research among children and adolescents (e.g., the projects VÆKST, Små Børns Sundhed, Alle Kan Synge)
  • Methodology and ethics in health research involving children and adolescents
  • Development and validation of questionnaires for children and adolescents
  • Health, quality of life, and participation among children and adolescents with chronic illnesses or disabilities (Trivsel på Trods, Ung med cerebral parese)
  • Health profiles and monitoring of child and adolescent health (e.g., through collaborations such as the Children’s Health Database and the Health Behaviour in School-aged Children survey)
  • Social and economic inequality in children and adolescent health and well-being
  • Mental health, well-being, and development
  • Health- and risk behaviours among children and adolescents
  • How the key arenas in children and adolescents’ lives (family, school, leisure activities) shape their health and well-being
