Description

The course aimed to train clinicians in the use and knowledge of Shared Decision Making and decision support tools in the conversation with the patient. Participants should subsequently be able to teach their own colleagues in Shared Decision Making.

Shared Decision Making is a method for user involvement in all hospitals and psychiatry in the Region of Southern Denmark. Patients often have insufficient information to choose the right treatment for them. Shared decision-making empowers patients to choose the right treatment for them, based on their values and preferences,

Shared decision-making is therefore about patients and clinicians working together to make decisions about assessment, treatment and follow-up to the degree and in the ways that the patient wants. It involves the use of evidence-based information about options, advantages, disadvantages and uncertainties, as well as counselling and support to explore one's own values and preferences and to choose the option that best matches the patient's preferences.

The training included: Shared decision making, decision support tools, quick guide to counselling, skills training, tools and materials for teaching in your own clinic, and facilitation in your own clinic.
