DescriptionDuring this course students work will focus around a stage-gate-model of producing prototype products involving recycled materials.
Working in small teams, students will visit external companies to gain insight into the engineering process of upcycling waste materials for new product design. They will study the properties of these materials, including strength, usage, availability, long term sustainability and user desirability in product value creation.
Students will then use a series of creative and innovative processes to focus on one recycled material and create new product concepts based around their chosen material for upcycling.
Students will then present their ide, process and their prototype concepts to get feedback from teachers as well as external companies.
Core areas of teaching will be:
Understanding of recycled materials in the product creation process
Product design innovation
Project management techniques
A first-hand understanding of the problems, advantages and uses of recycled materials
Sustainability throughout the entire product lifecycle
Prototyping and concept development for products based on recycled materials
Testing and understanding of the qualities of various recycled materials
Students will build upon core concepts from previous courses.
