This in-company project focuses on the development and testing of a stabilization control system for catamarans, leveraging Dacoma ApS's innovative Airkeel technology. The Airkeel, an air-filled appendage, dynamically counteracts rolling motions, enhancing stability, safety, and operational efficiency in maritime environments. A scaled Crew Transfer Vessel (CTV) model boat was utilized to evaluate control strategies and test the system's performance. The control system, implemented using MATLAB and Simulink, incorporates a Linear-Quadratic-Integral (LQI) controller to optimize roll damping. Through iterative testing in both natural and controlled environments, the project identified key challenges, including motor reliability and controller tuning, setting the stage for future advancements. Results underscore the potential of adaptive control systems and machine learning for improving stability under varying operational conditions.
