Description

The purpose of the course is to introduce the student to understand the fundamentals and
advancement in advanced materials and advanced manufacturing technologies that are used
in various industrial applications. Especially, there will be emphasis on the chosen criteria of
materials and manufacturing technologies on site-specific functional requirement for multiple
applications.
The content of the course will be divided into domains of the following:
• Advanced Materials; Metals, Ceramics, Polymers, Composites
• Advanced Manufacturing Technologies; Mechanical based (Water-Jet/Abrasive-
Jet/Abrasive Water Jet/Ultrasonic), Electrical based (Electrochemical/Electricallydischarged/
Electron beam), Optical based (Laser/Plasma),Hybrid
• Additive manufacturing; Liquid based (stereolithography, sol-gel), Solid based (fused
deposition, laminated object manufacturing), Powder based (laser sintering, metal
direct deposition)
