Taking its point of departure from American discussions within the field of narrative medicine, this paper discusses how and why contemporary Scandinavian literature occasions an immersion in and conversation about experiences related to a life in health and illness for patients, relatives and professional health personnel alike. With reference to Beate Grimsrud: En dåre fri (2010) and Linda Boström Knausgård: Helioskatastrofen (2014) we will describe and discuss how a narrative practice of writing can be understood as a basically therapeutic and healing practice. The paper ends by presenting ideas and considerations relating to work on an anthology of fiction texts to be used in training nurses.
