DescriptionThe Gender in Management SIG and the Leadership and Leadership Development SIG are pleased to invite you to attend the “Women and Leadership: Taking stock and challenges” event. This is the first of a two-webinar series that focuses on Women and Leadership.
There has been an enduring interest in the topic of women and leadership. A lot of research studies have sought to examine leadership effectiveness and the rise of female leaders. Nevertheless, though there has been a rise in the number of women in leadership positions, the question still remains; “Why are women underrepresented in elite leadership positions?”
A consideration of the effects of gender on leadership has important implications for a comprehensive understanding of leadership. Understanding the obstacles and invisible barriers (i.e. the glass ceiling) preventing women from ascending into elite leadership positions will help eradicate inequality in today’s world.
In view of the rapid changes to work and workplaces, we need to reflect more insightfully about women in leadership, taking stock of what has been achieved so far and the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. This event looks to reflect on the relationship between gender and leadership and how these shapes the experiences of women leaders.
This event is designed for academics, practitioners, researchers and policy makers. The speakers will be sharing on the relationship between gender and leadership, with a specific focus on women and leadership. Challenges and thoughts to set theory and practice agendas for the new decade will be the focus of the day.
