Description

The Permanent Missions of Kenya and the United Arab Emirates will convene an Arria-formula meeting of the Security Council on "Threats to International Peace and Security caused by Transnational Activities of Terrorist Groups" on 31 August 2022 at 3PM in the ECOSOC Chamber.

The meeting aims at evaluating the effectiveness of existing responses by the Security Council—and by extension the global community—towards countering transnational threats posed by terrorist groups. Al-Shabaab, a terrorist group affiliated with Al-Qaida which continues to launch cross-border operations from Somalia, will serve as an example; the activity of other groups will also be explored. Increasing concerns such as recruitment
efforts and cross-border attacks by terrorist groups, including through the exploitation of new and emerging technologies such as unmanned aerial systems (UAS), will be addressed as well.
