This talk examines the female teen leader in The 100: In The 100 (CW, 2014–) protagonist and teen Clarke (Eliza Taylor) becomes leader of a hundred delinquent teens sent from a dying spaceship back to Earth to see if the planet is inhabitable after nuclear war. But several hostile groups already occupy Earth, and when the older generation from the spaceship also lands, wills clash on how to survive and whom to sacrifice. The talk examines how the female teen leader in TV series The 100 handles life-and-death choices and how these are presented in terms of emotions.To save humanity used to be a task handled by an adult hero with experience, physical training, and heavy weaponry. The explosive battles in 1980s sci-fi-action films (Aliens), however, has shifted to strategic battle in the 2010s, and the protagonist is now an adolescent. The mission also involves calculating costs, means, and future scenarios. Combining cognitive theory, emotions studies, and genre analysis, the talk examines the female teen leader.
