This workshop will introduce the participants to basic concepts related to intellectual property rights and enable them to apply these to the pharmaceutical R&D setting. The first two sessions will provide a toolbox for evaluating third party patents, understanding their impact and for establishing freedom to operate (FTO). The second part of the programme will foucs on patent protection opportunities, how to identify them and how to turn inventions into well-drafted patent applications. Throughout the workshop, practical examples and short case studies from pharmaceutical and drug delivery research will be used for illustration.
