Panel Speaker at Early Career Network / Young Scholar Panel Proposal:

Industry 4.0 and the global factory: On the impact of additive manufacturing in IB.

The nature of global production is shifting with the emergence of new technologies such as additive manufacturing (AM; Campbell et al., 2011; D'Aveni, 2013). Indeed, AM has shown the potential to substantially change the established structure and operations of international business (Hannibal & Knight, 2018). AM and other constituent “industry 4.0” technologies offer numerous opportunities for both established international firms and start-ups (Rayna & Striukova, 2014), which are highly dependent on the specific industrial setting (Hannibal & Knight, 2018) and regional dynamics. In his panel intervention, Martin will focus on new research avenues into industry 4.0 in general and AM in particular and will discuss how scholars in this area may add to the IB traditional literature.
