Description
How does the length of an organization’s history affect its adoption of breakthrough technologies like digitalization? This study seeks answers in the context of the global music industry. From a path dependence perspective, we propose a negative relationship between the length of a record label’s historical path and the speed of its first digital music release. Moreover, we identify and examine this relationship’s theoretical boundaries on international diversification, media format diversification, and the music digitalization degree of home markets and music subsectors. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed with empirical findings.
