Abstract
Using Mixed Reality (MR) to plan the motion of robots, for example the path of a drone, is an effective way to optimize their movements in a collaborative working environments. Path planning using MR allows for the incorporation of motion constraints arising from real-world obstacles, virtual objects, and time scheduling considerations. We address time-dependent path planning of a drone in a three-dimensional dynamic indoor environment using MR. We evaluate visualization methods which convey the planned path of the drone and which show time-dependent safety zones around real and virtual obstacles. Our results with 51 participants show the effectiveness of the visualization to support interactive path planning tasks. The contribution of our research is a novel MR visualization method for three-dimensional and time-dependent (4D) path planning.
