Abstract
Background
The 15-method was developed and tested in Sweden as a new innovation for treating alcohol overuse in primary care. A Danish feasibility study of the 15-method in primary care has recently been conducted and proved that the rationale behind the 15-method was feasible, but also that some adjustments were needed. Based on results from this feasibility study, an adjustment of the method to Danish primary care and a large-scale testing of the methods’ effectiveness will be undertaken.
Materials and methods
Adjustment of the method to a Danish setting will be conducted using a participatory design approach with user involvement of citizens and healthcare professionals to address user needs along with barriers and facilitators for addressing alcohol problems. The effectiveness of the adjusted 15-method will be tested in a stepped-wedge cluster randomized control trial with randomization of participating general practices and a non-randomized patient population.
Results
Results from the participatory design studies adjusting and adapting the 15-method into Danish context will be presented at the conferences. An overview of the large-scale randomized control trial of the 15-methods’ effectiveness will also be presented.
Conclusion
Cultural and logistical adjustments to the 15-method are being addressed prior to large-scale implementation and testing.
