Abstract

Tesar et al. (2003) researched the internationalization of small European firms, and they found that recently small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have started systematically to examine alternatives open to them in the rapidly changing market. Some SMEs have embarked on the development of market-oriented strategies only in their domestic market while other SMEs have explored export markets. Those SMEs that are attempting to defend their domestic markets face strong competition from abroad (Kahiya 2013; Love and Roper 2015; Moini 1995). SMEs that have decided to explore export markets are finding it difficult to export their products on their own and are looking for external partners (Tesar et al. 2003).
