Comparative analysis of versions of "The Gosport Tragedy" recorded from English singing tradition with their original in an English broadside ballad of the mid-seventeenth century (with a view to exploring the generation of traditional stylistic features); in the context of the 'Murdered Sweetheart' genre of which this is one of the earliest examples.
