Abstract
The point of view in this article is that metaphors are central to the way we read and understand organizational life and to generate a range of complementary and competing insights in how and why people interact as they do in organizations. In continuation of the tradition of Gareth Morgan’s metaphorical approach to organization I suggest a quite new metaphor, organizations as grammar or rather as lexico-grammar, because I particularly discuss the possibilities of using inspiration from the textual, the interpersonal and the ideational lexico-grammar from the theory of the systemic functional linguistics to develop this new metaphor.
