Modeling and simulation of power systems presents itself as an important tool for performance evaluation of protection systems. Combined with digital relays behavior, protection algorithms can be tested in a reliable and economic way. However there is a lack of flexible solutions to simulate algorithms implementation and digital relays modeling on real-time closed-loop test environments. Taking this into consideration, this paper presents an open-source C++ library designed to simulate the operation of a digital protection relay. As a result, a solution with very flexible implementation was obtained. The reliability was addressed through the literature review of previous works that directly or indirectly used the proposed solution to implement different protection algorithms philosophies.
