Resumé

Enterprises are subjected to steadily increasing changes in their environment and therefore they are forced to adapt their business models to new situations. In this context, the article examines how SMEs with 10–30 employees adapt their business models successfully.

The research area of change management is widely spread and a common theory has not yet been established. Due to the weak focus on SMEs, this paper proposes a model for the transformation of SMEs based on qualitative research in four enterprises.

The model is based on an incremental and intuitive change process. It gains theoretical as well as practical importance because in the examined segment a successful change required fewer success factors as proposed by the literature.
