The invention is related to sensor structures in flexible materials, such as various fabrics. Especially, the invention is related to capacitive sensor structures. An advantageous embodiment of the invention provides a capacitive sensor structure formed of a number of electrically conducting layers, separated from each other by nonconducting layers. In order to form a sensor structure with a plurality of touch sensitive target areas, the conductive layers are arranged so as to overlap at such target areas, where touch sensitivity is desired. Further, in order to provide for detection of not only that an area is being touched, but also of which of these areas is being touched, the conducting layers are arranged so as to provide different combinations of overlapping conductive layers at different target areas. Further, the conducting layers are arranged so as to provide different ordering of the overlapping conductive layers at different target areas.
