Abstract
Purpose: Previous studies have shown that lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS), a form of spinal OA, commonly co-occurs in patients with knee or hip OA. Specifically, in the Good Life with osteoArthritis in Denmark (GLA:D®) Knee and Hip program, individual LSS symptoms exist in up to 40% and 50% of participants with knee and hip OA, respectively. While some evidence suggests co-occurring LSS and knee or hip OA has a detrimental effect on surgical outcomes, the impact on patient outcomes in primary care treatments such as patient education and exercise therapy programs is unknown. The aim of this study is to evaluate the association between comorbid LSS symptoms and changes in patient-reported outcomes following a patient education and exercise therapy program for people with knee or hip OA.
