Abstract

It is often said that the 40s are the new 30s. However, there is little questioning about which are the new 60s, 70s, 80s, ... In Mexico, since 1948 it was defined that everyone over 65 years was an aged person. Some can argue that this is a standard and easy to calculate index measure. Still, little is know of the consequences of studying population aging under this is perspective, specially under the heterogenous characteristics of a country like Mexico.
