Impact and benefit agreements in Greenland

Abstract

Any exploitation of local resources normally has an effect on the local community, including if it takes place offshore. Pollution and other negative effects of offshore operations on hunting and sheries are well documented in the Arctic, but there will also be additional socioeconomic effects, such as the immigration of non-local workers, as well as opportunities for the local workforce and local companies, skills transfers, and revenues from taxes and royalties.1
