Abstract

In this self-narrative, I reflect upon my transition from an elite athlete to a sport psychological consultant (SPC) within the same sport and on the same team. The article aims to elucidate how my experiences as both an elite athlete and career transition researcher impact my professional philosophy and team intervention strategies. I critically reflect upon the challenges of working as an SPC within a team in which I was a former member, but also the advantages stemming from the extensive contextual knowledge attained throughout my career. Finally, some examples of context-driven interventions are provided as well as concluding recommendations.
