Abstrakt

The purpose of the project was to analyse the needs for foreign language training of SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) in five industrial peripheral regions of the EC. The project was to focus on the need for knowledge of the least taught foreign lan-guages within the EC.

The project was to investigate the needs for and the use of the European languages across SMEs. Based on the results, a separate diagnosis was to be made with regard to the specific need for the least taught EC languages, in particular Danish and Dutch.

The work was to lead to a computerized database of foreign lan-guage needs of SMEs in the selected regions which would be com-piled by staff and students of the participating institutions in these regions. The results would be accessible to all partici-pating institutions in the regions, but also to the participa-ting companies and could form the basis of a project for the development of specialized courses and teaching materials.

The project would furthermore result in an analytical framework for use by SMEs in other EC regions.
