Resumé

The photo-sharing application Instagram provides its users with an array of tools for visual communication, most prominently photo filters. Originally, filters were designed to correct poorly shot photos, but today they serve as multimodal means of advanced experimentation and expression. Photo filters play a key role in mobile photographic practices, making them an important object of study with respect to the aesthetics of the digital age.
