Abstract

The work analyzes the sentiment of the lyrics of the most successful songs on a weekly basis during the period 1958-2020 to capture the social sentiment over time. We observe that the set of information collected by the lyrics differs from that which refers to music, which indicates that the lyrics provide information that is complementary to that extracted from the musical characteristics.
