Abstract

Research on how digital transformation (DT) takes place in small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) is still emerging. The objective of this paper is to examine what challenges encounter in B2B environments based on a multiple case study. The findings show that B2B firms can encounter customers that are either not ready or reluctant to become part of their DT initiatives. Also, top management assumes the role of driving DT as SMEs do not possess the necessary competences for DT or find these difficult to source.
