Determination of quantitative image quality metrics of micro dose 2D/3D slot scanner X-ray imaging system compared to two conventional digital radiography X-ray imaging systems

Abstrakt

Introduction:
Determination of the quantitative matrices including detective quantum efficiency (DQE), modulation transfer function (MTF) and noise power spectra (NPS) is one potentiality technique to evaluate the image quality of digital X-ray imaging systems objectively.
Aims: This study aims are:
- To quantitatively determine the diagnostic performance of microdose 2D/3D slot scanner X-ray imaging system (MDSS) and conventional digital radiography imaging systems in a chest and extremity protocols.
- To compare the effective detective quantum efficiency (eDQE) of MDSS imaging system to the eDQE of conventional digital radiography X-ray imaging systems.
Methods and materials:
The quantitative image quality parameters including effective normalised noise powers spectrum (eNNPS), effective modulation transfer function (eMTF) and effective detective quantum efficiency (eDQE) of MDSS imaging system were assessed and compared with two conventional digital radiography X-ray imaging systems.
Results:
The noise power spectrum (NPS) obtained in MDSS X-ray imaging system was a slightly higher than the NPS acquire the DR X-ray imaging systems, which may have a slight impact on the spatial resolution of the system (MTF). However, the calculated effective detective quantum efficiency (eDQE), which determines the total performance of the MDSS imaging system, was a same as the other two DR imaging systems.
Conclusion: No significant difference was found between the assessed quantitative image quality of the MDSS X-ray imaging system and conventional digital X-ray imaging systems.
