Abstract
Diode bridge rectifiers are used as the front-end rectifier due to high efficiency and reliability. However, it needs big passive components at the dc-side and requires electrolytic capacitors. To reduce the size of the rectifier circuit, small dc-link capacitors may be used. With such a circuit, there is a possibility to maintain the unity power factor at the input current. However, to get this functionality, a current injection circuit is required. This paper focuses on a current injection-based front-end converter. This converter needs a single current controller but the current to be controlled is not dc and has a frequency of 150 Hz. To track a time-varying reference signal, the paper proposes the use of a deadbeat controller. The design of the controller is explained in the paper. The performance of the controller at the limit of the controller output is discussed, and a simple approach to improve the performance is discussed. The controller performance is verified using simulation results.
