Configuration Method Design for Reconfigurable Manufacturing System with the aid of Plant Simulation

Resumé

A new Reconfigurable Manufacturing System structure has been recently designed by a large consumer goods manufacturer in Europe, aiming to balance the performance of productivity and flexibility. This article shows an exploratory research on the (re)configuration procedure of the new RMS structure with the help of computer simulation, which is part of the RMS research in University of Southern Denmark. Using Tecnomatix Plant Simulation, 2D models are built for system analysis and optimization, based on which the corresponding 3D models are generated in order to give a direct view of the system operation. Following the procedure which is designed in this paper, the (re)configuration of RMS can be managed as part of the daily operation with the help of computer simulation.
