Abstract
Our research compares four end-of-life value chain scenarios for a constructed industrial case of 30 blades located in Esbjerg. Pyrolysis, cement co-processing and mechanical shredding are documented, evaluated, and compared to landfill, using a life cycle assessment approach. Previous academic literature has sought to present and clarify which technologies are available but have failed to address the logistical and operational aspects of the value chains needed to scale up potential technologies. Our findings will serve as an early guidance for wind turbine owners and assist the selection of sustainable recycling routes of blades that are to be decommissioned.
