Abstract
Due to numerous issues posed by air pollution worldwide especially in developingcountries and the need for designing an integrated system for investigation ofpollution factors, in this report we present results of studying capabilities ofCOMSOL Multiphysics® software for the prediction of pollution levels in aresidential building in the vicinity of roads and highways. It is possible to changethe details of the current simulation based on the specifications of each urban zoneto obtain a layout with the lowest pollution concentration for residents. Simulationswere carried out using turbulence models to fully account for windy days withcomplex flow patterns in addition to calm days with laminar flow regimes.According to the results, the highest available distance from the street andhighways is proposed. However, in a situation where long distance is not available,it is suggested to place higher buildings in front of highways to achieve moredispersion of pollutants and to reduce the concentration of pollutants in residentialbuildings with lower elevations.
