Abstract
The integration of electrical bio-impedance sensing technologies and surgical robotics holds great promise for revolutionizing surgical procedures and improving patient outcomes. In this book chapter, we provide an overview of the current state-of-the-art developments and applications in the combination of surgical robotics and electrical bio-impedance sensing. Our focus is in two folds: (1) investigating the use of robots for assisting with electrical bio-impedance sensing process, and (2) integrating electrical bio-impedance sensing into surgical robotics for enhanced control capability. The combination of these two technologies has shown significant potential in various medical applications, including improving the accuracy and reliability of surgical procedures, as well as providing real-time feedback on intra-operative cancer margin detection. Nevertheless, the use of these technologies in various medical fields is still in its infancy, and further research is needed to fully explore their potential.
