N2 - Executive summary from the FAIR Reference group The 2024 Annual Report presents contributions from the six working groups of the FAIR Reference Group, each reporting on their respective focus areas for implementing the National Strategy for Data Management based on the FAIR Principles. Some working groups have provided specific recommendations and considerations, while others have focused on developing methods to address these areas in 2025.This annual report provides a snapshot of the working groups' current progress and preliminary conclusions. It is to be emphasized that the contributions here represent the working groups' perspectives and recommendations, which will evolve over the coming years. The report highlights the need for a substantially strengthened and more competent research support in data management (FAIRification) and for implementing data management policies at universities. Further inquiry is needed to determine whether a national competence center could beneficially support this; this will be a priority for the work in 2025. Furthermore, developments internationally, within the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC), and the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) will be monitored.DeiC Dataverse, DeiC Storage, and Sensitive Storage are mentioned in the report as infrastructure solutions expected to promote FAIR practices in Denmark, thus implementation and rollout is critical. A future assessment of universities' use of these services is recommended. Likewise, potential solutions for the long-term preservation of research data will be an important area to follow in 2025, with datas valuation playing a central role in this discussion.Collaboration between research funders and universities is described as productive. Working group C notes that applications for data management support are typically approved by funders, but that this support is often embedded within the costs allocated for postdocs responsible for developing the project's data management. FAIR data management is rarely explicitly mentioned in applications, suggesting low awareness of the concept. Improved communication and dissemination between the parties, particularly regarding data management funding frameworks, would further promote FAIR practices.Pertaining to security, working group E has established a constructive dialogue with key stakeholders, such as the CISO Forum (Chief Information Security Officer Forum) and the Ministry of Higher Education and Science. This collaboration provides a comprehensive overview of the many ongoing security initiatives, in light of the current geopolitical context. Finally, the FAIR Reference Group hopes for a positive and constructive response from the stakeholders with whom the working groups engage, as they assess progress in implemention of the strategy.
