Resumé

Sound intensity measurements make it possible to determine the sound power of a source in situ, even in the presence of other sources. However, the very fact that intensity-based sound power measurements can take place under widely different conditions makes it extremely difficult to evaluate the resulting measurement uncertainty. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the effect of the most common sources of error in sound power determination based on sound intensity measurements. In particular the influence of the scanning procedure used in approximating the surface integral of the intensity is examined both with a computer model and experimentally.
