Abstract

The study compared cow manure, anaerobic sludge for wastewater treatment plant, and anaerobic digestate from a biogas plant for their ability to convert carbon monoxide anaerobically. The results showed that all the inocula converted carbon monoxide into carbon dioxide, while methane production was relatively higher from anaerobic digestate. CO consumption rate was higher for cow manure and anaerobic digestate than for anaerobic sludge. Moreover, the results provide insight into the microbial communities present in each inoculum and their respective roles in CO conversion.
