An Accurate Programmable Pulse Generator for Stepper Actuated Real-Time Control Systems

Resumé

This paper presents an accurate programmable pulse generator implementable on low-cost embedded boards. The proposed method is software-based and real-time such that it can be used for real-time control applications. The range of frequencies that can be covered is from 1 Hz to 255 KHz with the resolution of 1 Hz. The convergence of the generated frequency to its desired value is proved theoretically and confirmed using simulations and experiments. The studied application is a stepper motor which should follow desired speed trajectories.
