Abstract

Charcot neuroarthropathy (CN) affects bone and joints. Most commonly it involves mid-, backfoot or ankle. Patients with CN are 40-60 years of age on average. CN carries a high risk of affecting work status. It is related to peripheral neuropathy. CN is a condition with derangement of bone structures, often leading to bone destruction, joint instability, foot ulcers and it holds a high risk of amputation.

Aim:
To review characteristics, management and outcome of the out-clinic patients at University Centre for Wound Healing, Odense University Hospital during the period 2009-2015.

Method:
Clinically details are retrospectively collected from medical records. The following data are available:
 Age, gender, smoking status, alcohol consumption
 Debut of symptoms, affected site, foot ulcers, deformities
 Diabetes: duration, HbA1c, neuropathy
 Comorbidities: cardiovascular events, nephropathy, dialysis, claudication, retinopathy
 Treatment: off-loading, casting period, surgery
