Abstract
In this study, a mini-review of quadratic DC-DC converters that are suitable for thermoelectric generators is presented. The various discussed topologies are compared from different perspectives to identify their key characteristics. Additionally, the details of the converters' topologies are explained to establish design concepts in order to develop new topologies that avoid repeated high voltage stress of semiconductors, eliminate common ground, and have low gain density. Various factors are taken into account to compare the different topologies. Furthermore, the study discusses converters with the same sub-structures but different features to illustrate each topology's over-all improvement effect. All the concepts discussed are essential requirements for creating a new non-isolated topology. Notably, this study highlights a suitable application for quadratic DC-DC converters, which are not suitable for applications requiring more than ten times voltage gain and do not have a high voltage gain.
