Abstrakt

For practical reasons this paper has been divided into two parts: part I (which appeared in the previous issue of this journal, vol. XIII, fasc. 2, pp. 173-211), containing sections 1.-6.4., and the present (concluding) part II, containing sections 6.5.-6.8. The paper is a rather detailed discussion of Hjelmslev’s Outline, mainly from the standpoint of the phonology of Danish (not so much from a theoretical linguistic point of view). Part I of the paper discussed the status of the taxemes u and i (section 3.), and the analyses of the consonants (4.) and vowels (5.). In addition, some introductory problems concerning the stød were considered (in sections 6.1.-6.4.), e.g. the status of the cenematy boundary as a kind of juncture and possible ways of extending this notion (6.3.). The present part II contains a detailed discussion of Hjelmslev’s stød-rules (6.5.). The word structure stød-rules are first considered (6.5.1.), and additional rules taking care of well-known word types like “betale” are proposed (6.5.1.1. and 6.5.1.2.). The syllable structure stød-rules are discussed in the following sections (6.5.2.-6.5.5.), which also consider the problem of defining the notion of “stød-basis” (6.5.5.1.) and contain an investigation of the singular definite form of nouns (6.5.5.2.(a)). The last sections of the paper are concerned with the imperatives, which pose some intricate problems in the case of words like “udgøre” (6.6.), and with Diderichsen’s criticism of some central points of the Outline (6.7.). 188 I am very indebted to Niels Ege for a large number of improvements of my English style in the present Part II of the paper.
