Person-centred Practice Development

Person-centred practice (PCP) is a theory and model for a relation based partnership placing the patient in the center when making decisions and where elements of the hospital system are customized to the patient, rather than the opposite. The model for person-centred practice is also a model for how organisations create a person-centred culture where healthcare professionals thrive as their attitude and competencies are crucial to the quality of care and treatment. The ultimate goal with PCP is the experience of a healthful culture both for patients and healthcare professionals. A healthful culture is defined as a culture, ”in which decision making is shared, relationships are collaborative, leadership is transformational and innovative practices are supported” (McCance & McCormack 2021).
Aim
The aim of the project is to develop a person-centred culture within the Department of Oncology and Palliative Care and Department of Haematology, and that all nurses within the departments gain competences to provide nursing care in accordance with a person-centred approach, resulting in patients experiencing healthful relations and nurses experiencing greater job satisfaction.
