In the project “PERI SiteStruct” we developed and demonstrated a novel robotic solution that can assemble, modify, and disassemble scaffolding structures and then further use the scaffolding as a workplace to carry out robotic construction operations automatically or in collaboration with workers.

While automated planning and digitized documentation processes are becoming more and more established in the scaffolding industry, the use of robotics around scaffolding structures is very limited. The actual assembly and disassembly of scaffolds through robots opens a new field. With our approach, the current passive scaffolding on construction sites is transformed into an active spatial structure, which systematically gives access to buildings and infrastructures for workers, materials, and tools, as well as facilitating an extendible library of modular robotic tools to execute supportive construction operations and to measure and monitor the site.

PERI made the project public at BAUMA, Germany in April 2025. This line of developments will be continued and is now coined “PERI Genio”.
