Obesity is one of the most frequent non-communicable diseases in westernized countries and its etiology is inherently linked with alterations in the intestinal microbiome [1] . It has further been shown that the obese phenotype can be transplanted with fecal microbial transplantation (FMT) [2] and first initial studies suggest that FMT might be a therapeutic option for reversing obesity in the future [3]. But so far the outcome of FMT cannot be predicted, because modelling for functionality and stability of intestinal microbial models is lacking.
